Kevin Cottrell, Graduate Intern

Kevin Cottrell is a master's level intern at Haven, currently in his final year at Virginia Commonwealth University's Master's in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling program. After graduation, he will pursue licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Kevin completed his undergraduate studies at James Madison University, where he conducted an Honors Thesis research project on strengthening social connection and founded a peer-to-peer support organization dedicated to fostering community on campus. These experiences shaped his passion for helping individuals build meaningful relationships as a foundation for mental health and overall well-being. Currently, he is also a counseling intern at Williamsville Wellness, an addiction treatment center in Virginia.

Drawing from Biblical principles, Kevin works to create a relational, supportive, and Christ-centered counseling experience. He believes that the Gospel is the good news for anyone, regardless of past sins and struggles, and is excited to work with clients of various backgrounds, keeping the Gospel at the foundation of the relationship. As an intern, Kevin offers a reduced rate for clients and is set on coming alongside individuals to help them process their struggles and accomplish their goals. He strives to provide a welcoming space to feel understood, and also to exemplify God’s love.

Outside of counseling, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and friends, working out, and playing games like chess and pickleball.
